Objective: To design and launch a comprehensive, culturally-responsive online ESL course for beginner-level students from Pakistan and Afghanistan, facilitating language acquisition and building foundational communication skills within a structured, supportive digital environment.
My Role: Lead Instructional Designer & Course Architect
I owned the end-to-end development of this specialized module for the University of the People, from initial concept and collaboration with SMEs to final implementation on the Moodle LMS.
Key Responsibilities & Process:
Course Architecture & Pedagogical Design:
Conceptualized and mapped the entire learner journey, structuring the curriculum into 8 sequenced modules to ensure scaffolded skill development from basic to more complex language concepts.
Formulated a comprehensive syllabus and course framework to set clear expectations, learning objectives, and a transparent path for student success.
Collaborative Content Development:
Partnered with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to validate content accuracy, cultural relevance, and pedagogical effectiveness for the target learner demographics.
Authored all core instructional materials and created detailed storyboards, specifying multimedia integration, learner interactions, and assessment points for a cohesive experience.
Multimedia & Interactive E-Learning Production:
Wrote original, situation-specific video scripts for conversational practice, moving beyond generic dialogues to create engaging and relatable scenarios for students.
Engineered the entire course within the Moodle LMS, designing and implementing all e-learning components, including interactive activities, resource libraries, and a user-friendly navigation structure.
Assessment Strategy & Evaluation:
Developed a robust assessment framework featuring formative quizzes, interactive activities, and a summative final examination to rigorously evaluate student progress against the module's learning objectives.
Utilized assessment data and feedback loops to gauge course effectiveness and identify opportunities for iterative improvement.
